The blockbuster was scheduled for the summer of 2021, but the Coronavirus has passed through.
In early April, Marvel postponed all its upcoming films, including Doctor Strange 2. Multiverse of Madness, originally scheduled for the summer of 2021, was finally postponed to November due to the global pandemic. The film led by Benedict Cumberbatch was postponed again: Variety reports that Disney and Marvel delayed Doctor Strange 2 to the week of March 25, 2022.
This is in fact a domino effect for the good doctor, since its release date in November hindered Spider-Man’s next film adventure, which has just been postponed as well. Marvel and Sony will indeed release their third collaboration around Spider-Man on November 5, 2021 in the USA. Tom Holland thus takes the spot of Doctor Strange.
Sam Raimi is still announced as director for the sequel, with Loki’s showrunner, Michael Waldron, writing the last version of the script.
Let’s also note that in this upside down calendar, Thor: Love and Thunder, by Taika Waititi, is advanced by one week. The film will now be released the week of February 11, 2022.
